Application Requirements

1. Associate’s degree in nursing from a regionally accredited program.

2. An RN license from an approved state that is free and unrestricted, meaning that it has not been subject to reprimand, revocation, probation, suspension, restriction, limitation, disciplinary action, discretionary review/hearing or encumberance nor had any type of complaint filed against it.

3. Minimum grade equivalent of a 2.5 (C) or the previous nursing program’s passing grade in any nursing or support course to be transferred.

Application Process

Attention EKU Students: If you are currently enrolled as an EKU ADN student, complete Part II and Part III below and contact Amanda Ballou to request a change of major.

Part I: Apply to EKU

1. Open the EKU Undergraduate Application and follow the steps below.
First time applicants: Select “create an account.”
Previous applicants: Enter your existing Login ID and PIN where indicated.

2. When prompted, you MUST indicate that you have a diploma and are seeking an online degree. First choose: “I am a college graduate seeking undergraduate coursework/degree.” Then choose: “I have a diploma and I am seeking an additional undergraduate degree or certificate ONLINE.”

3. Choose “BSN-Nursing (Post-RN)” from the program list provided, and continue to complete the remaining sections of the application.

Part II: Apply to the EKU Department of Baccalaureate & Graduate Nursing

1. Complete the Departmental Application.

2. Submit the required documents by following the instructions below.

2. Contact any and all colleges or universities that you have attended and request that your transcripts be sent directly to EKU at the address below. Most schools have an online request form for this service. Transcripts sent to a student and then delivered to EKU will not be accepted. Each transcript must bear the original signature of the authorized official, along with the seal of the institution, and must be sent to EKU directly from the issuing institution. Transcripts are not required for courses taken at EKU.

Master of Science in Nursing

Application Deadlines
Following are the deadlines for the EKU Online MSN program:

Application Requirements

1. Baccalaureate degree in nursing from a nationally accredited program.

2. RN license from an approved state that is free and unrestricted, meaning that it has not been subject to reprimand, revocation, probation, suspension, restriction, limitation, disciplinary action, discretionary review/hearing or encumberance nor had any type of complaint filed against it.

3. Undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75 (4.0 scale) cumulative or in last 60 hours.

4. 3-hour graduate or undergraduate course in statistics with a grade of “C” or higher.

5. MSN-FNP applicants must have at least one year of RN experience by the start of the program.

Admission is competitive. Selection is based on careful consideration of all application materials, including but not limited to, academic transcripts, the applicant’s goal statement, three required professional references, and professional work experience. In addition to the criteria listed, an interview may be requested.

1. Start your EKU Graduate School Application.

2. Complete the supporting documents. Use the official EKU forms to provide 3 professional references and an occupational profile. Write a statement of professional objectives/goal statement.

In your goal statement, you must do the following:

  • Describe your reasons for pursuing a MSN degree and your particular option (FNP, PMHNP or Nursing Administration).
  • Describe how your past work experiences have prepared you to pursue a MSN degree in your chosen option (FNP, PMHNP or Nursing Administration).
  • Describe your understanding of the role of the MSN-prepared nurse within your particular option (FNP, PMHNP or Nursing Administration).
  • Describe the life modifications you have made or will need to make to be successful in a professional graduate online program.

Once your forms and goal statement are complete, you can submit them in the final section of your application under the “Supporting Documents” tab, or mail, fax or e-mail them to the EKU Graduate School at the address below.

Part II: Send Documents

3. Have your official GRE or MAT test scores sent to EKU. Order your GRE scores from the Educational Testing Service website or your MAT scores from the Pearson Education website. Note: If you have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher, you are exempt from the GRE/MAT requirement.

Application Requirements

1. Master’s degree in nursing from a nationally accredited program.
RN license from an approved state that is free and unrestricted, meaning that it has not been subject to reprimand, revocation, probation, suspension, restriction, limitation, disciplinary action, discretionary review/hearing or encumberance nor had any type of complaint filed against it.

2. Graduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

If applicable, APRN license from an approved state that is free and unrestricted, meaning that it has not been subject to reprimand, revocation, probation, suspension, restriction, limitation, disciplinary action, discretionary review/hearing or encumberance nor had any type of complaint filed against it.

Admission is competitive.   • Describe how obtaining this degree will change your future practice.
  • Describe what academic strengths and weaknesses you bring to the program and explain how you plan to grow in this area.
  • Describe what life modifications you have made or will need to make to be successful in this program.
  • Describe your understanding of online/independent learning.
  • Describe your ideas for an evidence-based practice capstone project.

Once your forms and goal statement are complete, you can submit them in the final section of your application under the “Supporting Documents” tab, or mail, fax or e-mail them to the EKU Graduate School at the address below.
