EKU Online DNP Capstone Project: Implementation and Evaluation of a Team Simulation Training Program, Yvonne Rice

EKU Online DNP student Yvonne Rice successfully presented her capstone project "Implementation and Evaluation of a Team Simulation Training Program" on Monday, April 27, 2015.
The purpose of the project was to implement a simulation-based team-training component as part of a comprehensive trauma nurse-training program. The project was implemented at UK Chandler Hospital, a Level I Trauma Center in Lexington, KY.  Using the Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPPSTM) teamwork system (AHRQ, 2011), trauma intensive care unit nurses focused on the team work required to carry out emergency assessment and care of severely injured patients. Evaluation of the team training included knowledge, simulated team performance, nurse satisfaction, and nurse self-confidence in team function.
The committee was composed of EKU Online DNP faculty in the Department of Baccalaureate and Graduate Nursing: Dr. Mary DeLetter (chair), Dr. Evelyn Parrish and Dr. Cathie Velotta.
